About EARIE

The European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (E.A.R.I.E.) was created in 1974 following an initiative taken by Frederic M. SCHERER, Jürgen MUELLER and Keith COWLING.

The aim of the Association is to provide a professional society for academics and practitioners with an interest in the field of Industrial Economics. EARIE consists of its members, an Executive Committee, and two committees (Scientific Committee and Local Organizing Committee) which are chosen each year to organize the Annual Conference.

The Annual Conferences of the Association provide the focal point of communication for members. At these meetings, which are held in a different country each year, selected ongoing research work is presented and discussed.
In 1983, the first volume of the International Journal of Industrial Organization appeared. The journal was started on the initiative of several EARIE members in collaboration with the Association. This journal is an international venture with strong roots in Europe and Japan , but also with important connections with the US . It aims at a full coverage of both theoretical and empirical questions within the field of Industrial Organization, broadly defined. The journal regularly publishes special issues. The membership fee of EARIE includes a subscription to the journal.

In 1989, the first Young Economists' Essay Awards were given to young economists at the EARIE Annual Conference.
